ArtCast at the fleemarket
http://artcast.twoday.net/stories/1860182/

Every Saturday there is a fleemarket on the Petersplatz in Basel. A nice place to hang out and meet people. Really just by chance Barbara and Patrik bumped into each other there: Barbara lives around the corner, Patrik was taking a walk with his kids. When they sat down and started to chat, Patrik took out the m-audio and started to record the conversation more out of curiosity. The talking takes off at the fact that tomorrow on Sunday evening there starts a screening of the Situationist Guy Debords films at the Kunsthalle Basel. And jumps around from there in many directions... Admitted: sometimes we move on very thin ice. But who doesn't from time to time?
The image above theses lines? A spectacular giant inflated dog that was erected behind the bench where we sat. It appeared to us somehow appropriate to our subjects, among others: the society of spectacle...

ArtCast featuring Initiative Grundeinkommen
http://artcast.twoday.net/stories/1803964/

ArtCast featuring Anthony Giddens
http://artcast.twoday.net/stories/1772882/

Anthony Giddens; British Sociologist and prominent contributor to the debate on globalisation and the nature of modernity, social change and how individuals bring change about.

Key to his understanding of contemporary notions of self and intimacy, he suggests our era not so much as post-modern but as post-traditional. He anticipates the individual as pro-active participants in our relationships with one another and the media. Giddens; is adviser to Blair (the Third Way). Professor and former director of the LSE now working on Global Governance and with 34 Books he continues to be an accessible author and a prolific British Social theorist, also co-founder of Polity Press.

Barbara Strebel asked Giddens:

about models of socially useful technology

if progress can be driven by Policy making or if innovation (by its nature) has to be a game of trial and error

about recent developments of Information Age (Manuel Castells)

Native of London, son of a Transit clerk, Giddens slipped into Social sciences, by default, as Hull Univ. lacked a professorship.

We meet in Basel's City hall, following his talk entitled «New Egalitarianism» on poverty in Europe, invited by the Inst. for Sociology.

The city offered an apéro in its parliament where we spoke in the Rathaussaal itself. Next day Giddens left for alpine skiing, hoping to work on another book.

Audio quality of the first minutes is rather poor, is getting better in the main interview.

ArtCast in Kunstbulletin
http://artcast.twoday.net/stories/1752275/
ArtCast in the press, yet again: Verena Kuni, blogging at the home made labor, portrays ArtCast in Kunstbulletin 3/2006. Her recommendation:

ArtCast featuring Florian Cramer
http://artcast.twoday.net/stories/1239129/
For this ArtCast Barbara sat down with Florian Cramer, media theorist, Berlin. He makes his texts available on his gopher site, most recently with a booklet Words Made Flesh - Code, Culture, Imagination on the poetics and cultural history of algorithm code art. Cramers timeless statement "software cannot be understood by code alone. it is a culture!" stays true. We caught up with Florian recently on "Software as a poetic speculation" his recent talks in Basels' Plug-in and in Digitaler Salon Zurich.
Florian Cramer has contributed extentensively to the acceptance of net art, the reception of Net-Literature and now the recognition of code in arts: executable code as art and as mathematical algorhithm. Contributing theory in parellel with community paticipation, since a decade, he has moderated mailinglists (Rohrpost, nettime-unstable) and as a Jury member (Transmediale). With his texts he is an active participant in the emergence and acceptance of net art (Jodi. install.exe) as a Philologist and Professor of Compartative Literature in Berlin.
Then a hard switch over to the interview, where Bruce talks about "black globalization", the chances for a "positive al kaida", his impressions of Zurich and the role Switzerland as a country could play in the world.
